Welcome to this World Little Man
This was a song written for my friend Adrienne Cole on the birth of her (and Markus’!) son Lucas. This was originally recorded a few years ago and I gave a copy to Ade at the time. I re-did the song for this record as I thought it held up well and deserved a wider audience.
Ade had family that had passed and I wanted to put the thought of some element of comfort out there that young Lucas was still connected to all the people in Ade and Markus’s life through them (“A chain of life, that stretches back through all time, to all those hearts, you are connected”).
The lyrics I ended up writing are amongst the best I’ve ever written (he says, very humbly).

Welcome to this World Little Man

Welcome to this world little man
We’re so glad you came
Voices taking up the rhythm
Where the heartbeat used to be
Miraculous clockwork made with precision
These hands that hold you will protect you
They will guide you through your life
You will feel these bonds of love
Life’s embrace when a tear falls from your eye
The spirit of those, that you will never meet
Are in the smiles that surround you
A chain of life that stretches back through all time
To all those hearts you are connected
Someday soon you’ll look up at the sky
It will hold much wonder for you
So we wish you peace we wish you love
And the wisdom to understand what’s right
Welcome to this world little man
We’re so glad you came
