This is a stripped back version of a tune I wrote around 2009/10. It's basically the story of two young Irish men, in this instance, verbatim, my cousin Chris Carry and myself, er, Chris Carry heading West to America.
What? Yes, the s-a-m-e name. Even freakier? We share the same birthday!!!
The kicker is that it's now our kids generation who similarly cast an eye westwards in the hope of a better life.
"And from my island I let myself be castLike a human sling shotA forget-me-notWe took a chance andWe said hello to New York"
This song was well received when it was released, but typically with all my earlier songs, was over/under produced, technically hard on the ears etc. I hope this redresses at least some of those issues

Lyrics

So there I was a little Irishman, in a great big Irish town
My heart it leaped like a salmon in my chest as our plane touched down
We took a train and rode on the bus
So far from home just the two of us
Thoughts of home over three thousand miles away
Like a turning page everyday, we missed that Christmas
St Patricks Day, growing up as we
Said hello to New York
Chorus
And maybe I wasn't born to run
But walking fast I left my small town dreams
"And from my island I let myself be cast
Like a human sling shot
A forget-me-not
We took a chance and
We said hello to New York"
